The laser technology is very effective for scars on the face especially post acne or post pimples scars. Generally 4 to 6 sessions of laser treatment are required for greater than 80% reduction of the scars. These sessions are done at intervals of around 2 months each.
We have two different types of lasers that are used for reduction of scars on face and body.
The two technologies used for Scar reduction are :
- Fractional CO2 Laser
- Fractional Erbium Yag laser
The type of laser that is used depends on the duration of the scar and depth of the scar and location of the scar.
Erbium yag laser is used for a relatively new scars and scars on the face.
The CO2 Laser is used for long standing old scars since this is more effective but requires a longer down time.
The procedure of scar reduction laser is not painful at all. A numbing cream is applied 45 minutes prior to the procedure which makes the procedure even more painless. The entire procedure is usually complete in 30 minutes time.
A slight crusting and peeling of skin is seen following the procedure. This usually lasts for 4 to 5 days following the laser procedure. The patient is instructed to avoid intense sunlight during this period . The use of gentle cleansers and hydrating creams is advised for 7 to 10 days after the procedure.
Significant Improvement can be noted in the scars after the 1st laser procedure itself. However it takes around 6 to 8 weeks for the improvement to be appreciable. Contact Talwar Skin Institute for more details.
