PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) Treatment
PRP therapy is a very effective novel treatment for the management of hair loss disorders in both males as well as female patients. It is a simple yet very effective treatment that takes around one and half to two hours to perform.

PRP treatment involves taking around 20 ml of blood from patients on body which is then processed in a very scientific manner to yield around 2 ml of highly concentrated platelet solution.
This involves subjecting the blood sample to two spins of high speed centrifugation followed by injection of the platelet concentrate thus obtained on the patients face or scalp by specialised meso needles.
The PRP treatment is generally complete in around one and half hours.
The procedure may be perceived as painful by some and to prevent any sort of pain to the patient, the scalp is treated with specialised anaesthetic creams prior to the procedure to numb the scalp so that the patient is comfortable during the procedure. Most patients tolerate the procedure very well, however some may require additional anaesthetic injections to prevent any pain.
We generally recommend 4 sessions of PRP therapy to each patient to see substantial benefit. These sessions are performed at intervals of 6 to 8 weeks.
Beneficial effects are generally noted by the patients after the second treatment session itself.
A few patients may require maintenance sessions after the four initial sessions are over.
No precautions are required after therapy session. The patient can go back home the same day and they can wash their scalp the next morning. No rest is needed.
Prp is a very effective modality for facial skin rejuvenation. In addition it also has anti ageing benefits and may thereby lead to reduction of fine lines and impart a tightness to the skin. The growth factors that are released from the platelets lead to formation of new collagen which prevents and reduces any sagging of skin. It is also useful for any pigmentation over the skin like melanoma and facial melanosis.
The preparation of prp solution from blood is a slightly complicated and lengthy process. It takes around one hour to process the PRP solution and another half an hour to inject it.
The patient may experience a slight redness over the face immediately after a session which may last up to 24 to 36 hours. Some patients may have pain for up to one day after the procedure. It is generally difficult to go back to work on the same day and a 12 hour to 24 hour rest is recommended after the procedure.
